Show SERVICES FOR FORMER H. S. PRINCIPAL HELD To the memory of Mr. N. K. Nielsen, whose interest in the early cultural development of our community is reflected in what is now our school and citys major ma-jor project the high school art collection we desire to pay loving lov-ing and respectful tribute. ' I We feel that in "his passing:, not only has the state of Utah lost one of its foremost educators, educa-tors, but that this city has lost one of its most loyal supporters, a true friend, and one whose contributions con-tributions to the early educational and cultural progress of this community, com-munity, is immeasurable. Nielsen, Niel-sen, 65, of Salt Lake City, principal prin-cipal of the Springville high school for 12 years, were conducted con-ducted in Salt Lake City and also in Pleasant Grove Sunday. Mr. Neilsen died last Friday at his home following a lingering linger-ing illness. For the past 20 years, since retirement from active teaching, he had represented a publishing company and had resided re-sided in Salt Lake City. He was hjorn in Vedum, . Denmark, Den-mark, February 13, 1874, a son of Mads and Mette Marie Nielsen. Niel-sen. When but a child he came to Utah with his parents and for a number of years resided In Pleasant Grove. , He received his education at the Brigham Young university, the University of Utah and Co; lumbia university, and had spent most of his life teaching. He taugh school in Springville 17 years, and was principal of the Springville high school from 1905 to 1917. He was instrumentiin initiating plans for the high school art project. His first wife, Carrie Nelson, whom he married August 21, lyui, died in iyi4. te marntu j Mrs. Ruby R. Crawford in VJ2'6 1 ! and she died in 1935. He is survived by a son, Lloyd Nielsen of Ogden; a daughter, Ailecn Nielsen of Salt Lake City; five grandchildren; several stepchildren; step-children; two brothers and one sister. |
