Show F0KE1GN BIMETALLISM. The International Bimetalic leasue met yesterday in London, and the result re-sult bo far must warm the heartB of the ardent bi-metalieta of this nation, but more especially In the democratic party. Even Mr. Cleveland should rejoice re-joice because the question of the double standard is approaching a solution in a satisfactory way without doing violence viol-ence to the Chicago platform or without with-out placing all the responsibility of the step upon bis shoulders. What a magnificent mag-nificent stroke of policy it would have been had we moved out in advance ad-vance in this great act of justice, instead in-stead of weakly calling for an inter national conference. We would then have enjoyed the advantage as well as the distinction of performing the act of justice of the age, and, besldes, would have averted the panic which has wrought such wid3 ruin, not in America Amer-ica alone, but all over the civilized world. Think of it, we'd haye had no Coxey, no colossal strikes, and peace, quiet and plenty would have ruled the land instead of bankruptcy, poverty, stagnation and despair. Now, in view of this hopeful situation , let every honest Di-metalietof this nation na-tion address himself earnestly to the task of procuring as nearly an unanimous unani-mous expression in its favor as may be, to the end that our friends in London and all over the world may take heart of grace and feel their arms strengthened strength-ened for the battle which yet remains to be fought out to a finish with the cohorts ot gold monometalists. Let old Axchie Fisk, Wm. M. Stewart and others turn now, their honest faces away from Coxey and bis cranks, and address themselves to the task of strengthening and holding up the hands of our friends in Europe, who are engaged en-gaged there as we are here, in battling for the chance of the poor with legiti mate weapons and in a way which can most surely save them. For this battle vast armies of illy clad,balf-staryed men need not be hauled or tramped across the continent to be jeered at in Washington Wash-ington or elsewhere. A dignified demand de-mand for reform urged at the ballot box is all that is necessary. It is the battle of ballots, not of bullets, which is to settle this matter and the democratic demo-cratic voters of America are veterans in this sort of warfare. Well dons for the brave bi-metalists of England and of the continent of Europe. |
