Show State Officials To Appraise Lands John T. Oldroyd, state land commissioner, com-missioner, and W. E. Winch, state land appraiser, were in Gunnison ! from Salt Lake Tuesday afternoon. After a brief consultation with farmers and others interested, the gentlemen left for Richfield. Mr. Oldroyd stated to a News man that he was here for the purpose of I making an appraisement of the state ' lands under the Piute reservoir proj-, ect and that the work would be done at once. There are some :i,300 of I unused acres of land under the proj- j ect in Sanpete and Sevier counties, j and the first appraisement made was CSUnd too high, said Commissioner Oldroyd, and with a view to adjusting adjust-ing the matters more equal all the unused and tillable lands will be reappraised. It will be necessary for the state to get at least $3.50 per acre, that price being set as the minimum. Much of land, with water, j is regarded as very valuable, and it is said that with a lower. price than it has been held at, much of the land will fall into the hands of settlers I and placed in a productive state. A committee from Sevier county, together with the state officials, will i make soil tests and other preliminaries prelim-inaries preparatory to making the final appraisement. There are several hundred acres of valuable lands under the Piute project in this county. Some of it, I however, has been held a little high, but when the final appraisement is made it is thought a great deal of ft will be put under cultivation. |
