Show 6 BOX ELDER v JOURNAL, Brigham City, Utah v! Thursday, December 18, 1975 at Cyprus Fall Bs V ; aimoftoer ion cage bemtbreaker Elders belabored Box bask-eteer- s continued riding the Heartbreak Trail Tuesday night, falling to Cyprus on the Pirates planks, It was the fourth straight loss for the local lads who never lose em big never by more than four points. The handful of Hive fans who journeyed into the land of copper and smoke were treated to some exciting moments of basketball. But alas, they were denied the satisfaction of seeing their troops finish on the scores long end for a change. That closes out the cage action for this week. The Bees return to the hardwoods on Tuesday, Dec. 23, traveling to Logan for a Region One contest with the Grizzlies. Logan Coach Joel Gardner was on hand for the outing at Cyprus. And he probably slept well that night. The Bees who began the season impressively, winning two straight, did not look like the club that worked those wonders against Ben Lomond and Layton. 63-6- Forced Play They did not perform with poise or confidence, forcing their play like a team caught in a losing streak. The zip that marked their earlier cage shows was not there. This was not a particulaly good Cyprus team. The Pirates now among the ranks, went r into the game with a mark. And it appeared early they just didnt have the personnel to stay with Box Elder. r But a by the name of Mark Sidwell blistered the nets from outside enroute to a night. His missiles kept the visitors from running away to a commanding lead. Box Elder was paced by center Alan Asay who had his finest night of the season. He ended the evening with 24 points, was a big rebounder for the Bees. lack-luste- 5 sharp-shoote- Told Story In fact in the fourth quarter when the Hive offense went flat, Asay tanked 10 of his teams 12 points. And that kind of told the story. The first quarter belonged to Cyprus as Box Elder players continually forced shots that were not good despite controlling other facets of the game. The Bees began passing the ball well against the Pirates zone defense to move swiftly ahead in the second period. Scott Corry had four quick fielders to spark the explosion which carried Box Elder to a halftime advantage. But Sidwell and Bill Paulos popped three long fielders in the third period to keep the margin stable. However, the battle had definitely turned in Box Elders favor and it seemed the Bees, lead at moving to a seven-poin- t one time and threatening to extend it, would tuck this one away. offering. Box Elder grabbed the cas-abcalled time out, plotted their strategy and then fed into Corry who tried a jumper, missed, tailed his shot for a second jumper which slid off the hoop and that was the game. Behind Asay was Corry with 14 and Wade Hall with 10 points. In double figures for Cyprus were Sidwell and Paulos who Bowling Results a, 30-2- 5 netted 12 Miller with The box , Lucky Strike League Golden Bowl Results of Dec. 12, 1975 A High team points, and Steve 20 11. Joining Weight and Hardy as e winners was Mike Hatch (126). And Bruce Hubbard (98) was best in the consolation finals in his weight. "We were very disappointed in most of our matches the first round. We experienced a bad draw and proceded to wrestle very poorly. d first-plac- Showed Improvement The second round showed much improvement and we started to look like a team from that point on. All four of the people who placed did excellent jobs. We surprised many people. Nothing in words can describe my feelings regarding those four gentlemen, Coach Wolff stated. Although they failed to place, we got super efforts from Todd Williams (a freshman) and Mike Christensen. Todd was leading in both of his matches when he made mistakes. "Mike looked very aggressive. Woodward and Jensen both showed good improvement, Wolff said. Takagi (105) and Conner (112) from Hillcrest are extremely exciting wrestlers who provide an aggressive show from the takedown position.
