Show HURRICANE Mrs. Thomas Ilinton (AUNT MINA) Reporter TSgt. Wm. S. Stewart left last week for McCord Field, Washington, Washing-ton, where he expects to receive his discharge. Radio-gunner on a B-17 with the eighth air force, he wears the ETO ribbon with three battle stars, the Presidential unit citation, the air medal, and Good Conduct medal. He is the husband of the former LaDean Spendlove with whom he spent his 45 day furlough, after returning re-turning from overseas. Prior to his induction in Oct. 1942, Sgt. Stewart was assistant manager of the Ft. Benning cleaning and tailoring co. of Columbus, Ga. Cpl. Clair Reber who has just returned with his military discharge dis-charge spent Saturday here with Mrs. Reber, the former Mary Lynn Woodbury at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. E. Woodbury with whom she has been living while he was overseas. Pfc. Marden Riggs visited here last week with his mother, Mrs. Isa Teeples, having received his honorable discharge after overseas over-seas service. He has gone to Salt Lake City to. seek employment employ-ment His brother, Fay Teeples is serving with the merchant marine mar-ine along the Mexican border. Mrs. Robert Langston, whose husband is in military service has moved to Salt Lake to reside. Cpl. Ferrel Hall, who was recently re-cently discharged from military service is here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lafayette Hall. He was sworn in at Fort Douglas Nov. 3, 1942, training at Camp Robinson, Ark; Waco, Texas, Jefferson Jef-ferson Barracks, Mo., and Fort Loton, Washington, before sailing May 11, 1943 to Alaska and the Aleutians where he spent 26 months. He flew back to the US in September, and received his discharge Nov. 10. Seaman Marian Walker is here on a short leave, visiting relatives and friends, having just completed his boot training at San Diego. Enroute back to San Diego to resume his training in Radar operations, he will stop over in Caliente to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clave D. Walker, who formerly lived in Hurricane. Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Covington have received a telegram from their son, Cpl. Justin Covington, saying he arrived in New Jersey and will see the msoon. Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Hoyt and Mrs. Alice LeBaron attended the American Legion convention held in Beaver last Thursday. Miss Delma Ballard has returned re-turned to her employment with the Utah Woolen Mills after a 17 day vacation home with her mother, Mrs. Thatcher Ballard, due to the serious illness of her brother Roy, who is recovering from an emergency operation. Mrs. Martin Sanders and her brother, Bert Adams and Miss Mary Webb spent last Sunday in Las Vegas visiting friends. Miss Florine Tweedie has returned re-turned to Salt Lake City to resume re-sume her studies at the U of U after visiting her mother, Mrs. Frank Reber, for several days. ( Held over from last week ) Francis Leany, son of Wilford Leany has been honorably discharged dis-charged from military service with the air forces. He enlisted June 11, 1943 training at air fields in Texas, Illinois, Arizona, Florida, Flor-ida, Mississippi and Georgia, before be-fore going overseas with the 100th Bomb group, participating in 26 missions. He has three battle bat-tle stars, the air medal, with three oak leaf clusters and the ATO and ETO ribbons. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Perkins have been advised that their son. Clarence Garn .who has been in Japan, has returned to the U S. Cpl. Elwin DeMille has been home on a 10-day furlough. He reported to Ft. Douglas, Dec. 1. Dvlmar Hinton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hinton is home on a 30 day furlough. He will also visit with his brother Carlon and family in Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Workman have gone to Arizona on business. Pfc. Raymond Davis and wife of Orem were Thanksgiving guests of his mother, Mrs. Bill Standlcy. He has Iven in military service for !.") months with the 39th Field hospital, and was overseas two years. He has four battle stars and the good conduct medal. Ivt. Ward Wright returned last Thursday to Camp Wolters, Tex., after a ten day furlough. R. P. Woodbury, mrmtx-r of the State Board Cooperative association, associa-tion, and Bp. Carol Heaton, manager mana-ger of the Hurricane Coop, attended at-tended the recent state board meeting in Salt Ijikc City. Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Tobler and four children have returned to Salt Lake City after visiting over Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Gates. Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Cottam visited over Monday with their children Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bradshnw and family. Leon Hall who has been honorably honor-ably discharged from military service, ser-vice, is attending the U of U school of engineering in Salt Lake. Verdell Hinton, Von Pulsipher and Julia Whitney were home from the USA C. Logan, over Thanksgiving holidays. Mrs. Annie W. Stout is visiting in Tropic with her children, Mr. and Mrs. Arlin Colvin and family. Mrs. Lyle Bringhurst accompanied accom-panied her husband to Los Angeles Ange-les over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Barrett and children have returned from spending the week end with Mrs. Barrett's parents in Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. Wright were happily surprised by the return re-turn of their son, Russell Wright FlC from the Pacific for Thanksgiving holidays, after more than a year's absence. He participated parti-cipated In the battles of Iwo Jlma and Okinnwn. While on leave he and his brother Chester, who also returned recently from overseas, had their first visit In three years. Miss Alda Hinton sjicnt the week end home from Salt iJike City with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hinton. Mr. and Mrs. Arden Sampson and four children of Las Vrgas are visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Bradshnw. Mrs. Doris Omnilx-rliiln entertained enter-tained a group of friends lit her home Thursday evening honoring Pvt. Ward Wright, who was home Mayor and Mrs. Chnunrcy Sandlierg and Gene Wadsworth at tended the Civic club baniUet In Cedar City Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Howard G. Wilson Wil-son and two children of lioche were guesls last week of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Humphries, parents par-ents of Mrs. Wilson. |
