Show GRIM REAPER CLAIMS AGED PIONEER OF 49 ephraim hatch descendent of pilgrim fathers passed away monday at woods cross ephraim hatch whose death occurred monday july 10 1916 was born about 60 years ago age at Caler Cater argus county new newyork york when he was but a child the family comprising r six sons and one daughter moved wilu tho saints finally sett settling lil C at nauvoo here when ephraim was a small boy the mother de died d when the saints were driven from nauvoo the family left for the wilderness also at Winter quarters two of the sons volunteered their services in the U S army leaving with the mormon battalion for mexico f this made it impossible for the family to go farther west until the boys returned the family then journeyed across the plains arriving in the salt lake valley iti in september 1849 locating in at woods cross the motherless children and t father now set themselves to work toiling early and late to clear and break the old hatch homestead ephraim well remembered every detail of the difficult job some of the large fields were denely covered with willows which were broken by a plow which they brought with them across the plains ephraim being an expert ox team driver di 4 iver was given the task by hys his fa father of driving eight yke yazo of oxen and one lead tea teamon mn this ibis plow when a young youn man he was called to help bring the emigrants across ahe plains ile he performed this labor well crossing the plains five times later when the railroad was completed he crossed by rail visiting t his relatives in new york he was one of the first who volunteered in the echo canyon war he was also an officer in the black hawk war through t all of the trials he was called to pass through he remained stead fast and terue true conscientiously trying 11 to do what was right n he was married to rose ellen king of mantua 0 june 13 64 thred sons and four dati daughters liters were born to them one daughter JE EI ameta lameta dying in infancy one son if horace orace d ying dying four years ago he is survived by his wife and the following t children par ley hatch mrs minnie burn J ham bam mrs nellie robinson rus sell hatch and mrs rhoada atkinson J also twenty five grandchildren r and one great grandchild P funeral services were held in the south bountiful chapel yesterday at 2 p in the speakers were elders H B parkin J I 1 atkinson edwin pace chas R mabey E B dark clark and J H robinson of the stake president and bishop S 0 howard therl there was a very large attendances attendance and many beautiful floral offerings A tenor solo was rendered by jared brown and mixed consisting of eva aud and caro jl line Hatch Andrew and jared brown rendered selections at the home and also at the cem 1 eter eatery y automobile cortege MRS E P ellison DIES VERY SUDDENLY at her home in layton today had not enjoyed good health for past year or longer E P ellison passed away very suddenly this afternoon about ten days ago I 1 she was taken ill and it was believed that she was developing pneumonia but it proved to be blood poisoning mrs ellison had bad not enjoyed good health for a year or more she is survived by her husband and the following children mrs aneetta stevenson james laurence E morris H parley ellison mrs WR W R skeen and miss marion ellison she also has several grandchild re n |
