The women harriers were lead by a strong finish by Jackie Gengler who placed 43rd out of the 62 women competing. Jill Anderson placed 57th, Karen Talbot at 58th, Teresa Allen 59th and Michelle Stewart coming in at 62nd. The course consisted of 3.2 miles, with the women placing last out of the eight teams competing. "We were up against some very tough competition," said Coach Joe Lopour. "It was a tough course with a lot of hills, and the weather proved to be a deciding factor." The men finished 11th out of the 12 teams competing. David Dix led SUSC by finishing 56th out of the 88 men competing. Glen Seegrist was 71st, Gary Hamblin 81st, Chito Nez 82nd, Brett Wehrli finished 85th, Steve Francom was 86th and Lee Hurren placed 87th. "Overall we ran very well, considering our youth," said Lopour. "The .runners came into the competion prepared to run at their peak potential, because the next competition is at the nationals." Lopour and his squad are set for the nationals Nov. 21 in Evansville, Ind. ORIGINAL STYLE PAN PIZZA Thick Deep 3, 3. FREE! An independently owned franchise of Sounds Easy came back in the next two games and defeated the 'Birds 15-115-1- 0 to win the match. "It was a hard played match by the kids," Peterson said. "We are proud of them because they didn't crack, they stayed with it and played to the very end." Selection for the team was made following the tournament. The 10 players were chosen by the coaches at the tournament. Jennifer Miller, Kim Turley and Susan Flamm were selected from SUSC's Lady Thunderbirds. The Lady Thunderbird volleyball season came to a close Saturday when the squad was defeated by Western New Mexico at the NAIA District Seven volleyball tournament. The 'Birds ended their season with a 14-1- 2 record and a fourth place finish in the District Seven tournament. "Our final match against Western New Mexico was our best played match of the year," said Coach Joy Peterson. "Everyone played exceptionally well."
