SAT. &. 9 A.M.-- 12 Was the signing of the Declaration of Independence really that funny? Yes, it was according to 776, a musical which depicted the Philadelphia Convention. These somber, historical facts merged with humor to create a play which is easier to sit through than a dry recitation of the events which took place. However, it is seldom dry when one takes a class from a political science professor who passionately reenacts the Philadelphia Convention with piles of journals, letters, biographies and, of course, a copy of The Federalist Papers. And it is seldom dry history when the actors crack jokes every 2Vi minutes, sing zany songs and an entirely human side of the issue. Todd Gibson leads the brunt of humor as the and disliked John Adams. The repetition of these qualities in him by other actors gave the audience a familiarity and added to the level of humor. From the beginning where subtle one-linewere caught on by a few audience members to the end of the first act when most of the audience was laughing hysterically, the play was Flower Gifts Corsages Special Occasions nu 1 to In if Ttact Ant 'Haft 'Jrom PLES2ES TRAVEL INTERNATIONAL LET US HELP YOU GET A GREAT DEAL ON A HOLIDAY PLAN 432 NORTH MAIN STREET, CEDAR CITY funny. The actors were funny. Moments of the play brought a sudden sorrow for those who died during the Revolution while the audience was constantly reminded of the war, outside the doorsteps of the Congress, via dispatches from G. Washington. But other moments were slow moving in dialogue and since the play lacked a lot of action, it made the play drag slightly. Kent E. Myers, playing the part of Ben Franklin, and Gibson made a great pair of humorous patriots who were well aware of their history book fame. Mike Anderson also carries his smaller part of Richard Henry Lee with a powerful singing voice and a hilarious southern accent. "It's been so long since I've done one, I've forgotten how much fun it was," she said, with an edge of delight in her voice. Spook, Dot and Gus are her three roommates; they don't seem to mind that she is still here working on costumes at 1 a.m. Spook, a longhaired, black cat, also goes by the name "Shitty Kitty" because it has an attitude problem, according to Stiglinski. Dot, who got her naqie because of a dot on kitten that was her paw, is a given to her by a student last spring. Stiglinski has had Gus for 13 or 14 years (she can't remember exactly how long). She found him in a dumpster and named him after Gus, the theatre cat from the musical Cats. Stiglinski doesn't stop even during the summer Another theatre-relate- d project that Stiglinski is involved with is children's theatre. She, along with the home ec department and the school district, are working on a play to take to the schools that deals with child abuse. She is also trying to get a children's theatre program started by and for children. Now Martha's costume is finally finished except for tacking down a few ribbons that she'll have a student do another day. At 2:15 a.m., Stiglinski finishes up a few other small jobs and heads for home. eight-month-o- ld Student Season Passt Unlimited ft use all season A.
