Show lSSlDaMMEWiaBBCT98 Alberta Sullivan Miss GET A SNEAK PREVIEW OF THE CONTESTANTS FOR MISS SUSC ON PAGE 7. recrowned Princess here is Inter-Trib- al BY JULIE COOK The reigning Inter-TribPrincess, Alberta Sullivan, was recrowned at the 1987-8- 8 pageant held Friday night in Thorley Recital Hall. Sullivan, a junior in industrial technology, decided to defend her title when only three women had signed up for the pageant. Genevieve Yazzie was named first attendant, Nathele Poyer was named second attendant and Shirley Lee was named Miss Congeniality. Sullivan recited a poem concerning education with background music for her modern talent. For her traditional talent, Sullivan sang a Navajo song about a Navajo girl chewing gum. She also described a traditional Navajo wedding basket and told a joke in both Navajo and English. Yazzie, a sophomore business education major, described the six basic steps in making a sleeping bag for her modern talent. She demonstrated, for her traditional talent, the process of carding and spinning wool for a loom. Poyer, a sophomore business administration major, gave a presentation of her cheerleading skills by demonstrating double stunts for her modern talent. For her traditional talent, she accompanied the Indian song "Go My Son" with traditional Indian sign language. Lee presented a comedy routine entitled "Shirley's Five Minute Cake" for her modern talent. For her traditional talent, she demonstrated the technique of corn grinding. Each contestant was also asked an open ended question near the end of the program and presented her answer on stage. The emcees of the pageant were Sharon Dickson, pageant coordinator, and Brenda Thompson. Entertainment was provided by soloistguitarist Gary Tom, and the Paiute Princess Royalty performed a traditional Native American dance.
