Wildlife enjoy the fruit that follows the blossoms. Humans have used the blossoms and fruit for herbs and sustenance. They are said to contain generous amounts of vitamin C. Mountain hollyhock is found in rich, moist soils along streams, canyons, and open areas along foothills. It blooms in June to early August. The fleshy leaves have a waxy cover that allow them to live in very dry conditions since the waxy cover helps the plant to retain water. Stonecrop can be used for salad or as a potherb, as the stems and leaves are edible. Flowers may vary in color from white to yellow or red.
