Show STOLEN SHEEP ARE RECOVERED. Animals Found in Castle Valley in Possession of Two Young Men. Mt. Pleasant, June 21. Sheriff Jensen returned today from Castle Dale, where he has been for several sever-al days in search of the parties who had driven off a bunch of sheep belonging to John II. Seely of this city. His search was successful, as the parties who had the sheep in possession, or part of them at least, were found and the animals secured. The sheep, seven in number from the herd of Mr. Seely and thirteen from another herd, were in a bunch which was being run by A. Johnson, John-son, son of Representative Johnson of Emery county, and John Dott, another well known resident of Emery county. The young men acknowledged that the sheep were in their bunch as soon as they saw the posse approaching, they having picked them up on the mountains where they had been found, having strayed from the main herd. They had put their marks upon them, claiming that they did not know the ownership of them. In this it is quite certain that they are departing de-parting somewhat from the truth, as there are no other sheep in this part of the county like Seely's. One of the young men was arrested and the other one will be as soon as a caretaker for the sheep can be found. He is under surveillance in the meantime. The officers were forced to leave the recaptured bunch with the herd where they found them, as there were no other herds any place near where they could be taken. The officers seem to be of the opinion that they have a good case and that a conviction will be easy. They admit that the sheep were probably found by the two young men while they were straying alone over the hills, as the heavy storms of a month ago scattered all the herds all over the mountains, and this would have been possible. But they undoubtedly knew the sheep were not their own, and that some of them were Seely's, and as they went ahead and marked them, knowing this, they have placed themselves liable. Herald. |
