County-wide Fire Districts Commissioner Ramsay reported - J - ! that Leonard Iverson of the Ti volunteer fire department had lo- ; cated another excellent fire truck for ' purchase at $5,000. The commis-: commis-: . - sion gave Iverson permission to proceed with the purchase for the : unit which will be placed in Hen-rieville. Hen-rieville. After a review of a request from . the County Fire Board, the commission com-mission approved the purchase of 24 pagers at an approximate cost of $4,514. The commission also approved ap-proved the purchase of a communication communi-cation repeater for Ticaboo at an approximate cost of $4,000. Public Works Business State BLM Garfield County Engineer Brian Bremner will work with BLM State Director Sally Wisely and GSENM Manager Kate Cannon toward an on the ground inspection of roads across the BLM. He will keep the commission updated on the progress prog-ress of scheduling the meeting. Scott Barney Road A locked gate has been placed on a road that is included on the county's "D" road system. Attorney Attor-ney Lee drafted a letter to be sent to the owner of the property. Escalante City Police Issues Present to discuss law enforcement enforce-ment coverage in Escalante were Garfield County Sheriff Than Cooper, Coo-per, Escalante Mayor Marjie Spencer and councilman Howard Miller. Mayor Spencer updated the ; commission on the status of police coverage in Escalante. The city currently does not have a paid offi-: offi-: cer and is requesting assistance from : Garfield County in placing a county ; deputy in Escalante. There was ex-tensive ex-tensive discussion of Escalante City ; : contracting with Garfield County '. for police coverage. Executive Session The commission motioned to move into Executive Session to discuss personnel issues. Out-of-State Per Diem Garfield Travel Council Director Bruce Fullmer led discussion on the need to increase per diem rates for travel outside the state of Utah. The commission made a motion to adopt the Federal Out of State Per Diem rates. Forest Reserve Legislation Secure Rural Schools And Community Self-Determination Self-Determination Act Francis Reynolds, Dixie National Na-tional Forest, gave a presentation on the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act (formerly the Forest Reserve). There are changes coming in the way the fund are distributed. A decision de-cision needs to be made by the commission regarding the formation forma-tion of a resource advisory council either on a county of five-county basis and choosing a payment option op-tion plan for the county to participate partici-pate in the next five years. Reynolds Rey-nolds will notify the commission when the training for county officials offi-cials will be held. State and Institutional State Lands (SITLA) Right-of-Way Proposal The SITLA Board has asked the county commission to comment on the request from Bristlecone Water District for easements across SITLA property surrounding the Bryce Canyon Airport, including a section in the current exchange proposal, pro-posal, as well as property being leased by the county. After discussion, discus-sion, Commissioner Maloy Dodds asked representative Lou Brown to attend a future meeting in order to obtain information regarding the request. |
