Show A MAMMOTH EXCURSION. On Monday morning last we had a very pleasant call from two old time friends and associates of the Salt Lake fire brigade, Messers. W. J. Hooper and Reuben Simpson. They were in town for the purpose of making preparations for the mammoth excursion to this valley, to take place August 23d (rd.), under the auspices of the Salt Lake firemen. The excursion will leave Salt Lake on the morning of August 23d (rd), arriving in Logan soon after noon. Providence Hall has been engaged for a grand ball on the evening of that date, and on the same evening there will be a grand torchlight procession from Logan to Providence. On the evening of the 24th, a grand ball will be given in Logan Hall. The managers of the excursion have secured the services of the Wellsville string band. The Eleventh Ward Dramatic Association of Salt Lake will give a performance in Providence Hall on the evening of the 24th. Only three days time has been secured for the excursion, but if another day's extension of time can be obtained, the Twenty-first Ward Dramatic Association will give a performance in Providence Hall on the evening of the 25th. On the evening of the arrival of the excursion, fireworks will be let off, both in Logan and Providence. The round trip fare will be; From Salt Lake to Logan, $3; to Franklin $3.50; From Ogden to Logan $2; to Franklin $2.50. From points south of Salt Lake, half-fare to that city will be given, and excursion rates thence north. This promises to be the largest excursion that ever came to this valley and will be the occasion of a happy reunion of friends who rarely see each other. |
