Tuesday night of last week Sclplo was favored by a rather unusual event In the form of a debate, arranged under un-der tho auspices of the Mutual Improvement Im-provement Association. Tho question debated was: "Resolved, That tl I'nited Slates should fortify Panama Canal." The affirmative speakers were 11. L. Robins and K. F. Pack; negative, supported by C. A. Memmott and O. L. Thompson. Kach speaker was allowed fifteen minutes with a rebuttal re-buttal of live mimes for each side. All of the speakers are to be congratulated congratu-lated upon the way they bandied their subject. The arguments and delivery were very good on both sides. The affirmative, however, received the votes of each of the three Judges, who considered the points made and their proof. A number of the young men and boys met Thursday night and organized organ-ized an athletic association, the purpose pur-pose being to further and promote the Interests of athletics in general la th district of Selplo. The following officers of-ficers were chosen for tho coming year: President, Reno Memmott; Vice President, Curtis Johnson; Secretary Sec-retary and Treasurer, Karl Wasden; Athletic Manager, Dean F. Peterson. The association In order to progress as It should will need tho support of all m-ii and boys In town, not only those who participate In tho games, but those who enjoy looking on. What Is needed Is the support of everyone. Officers or , leaders cannot do anything unless they have the support of hII. So let's ail get united in this one thing at least.
