Then Mrs. Wankier read the minutes from the Nov. 7 meeting, and the closing of the water bonds, which she attended Nov. 11, in Salt Lake City before the Water Resource board. He sat down quietly and began to read a book entitled Medical Technology. It was soon learned who this medical man was, Don Andrus, the chief laboratory technician of the Brigham City hospital. Because of a rare blood type needed in an emergency several months ago, which was finally obtained with great difficulty for the recently deceased Lyle Wells, the city decided it would like to have a complete blood list of all Corinne's adults and children. For this purpose Don Andrus was invited. Andrus discussed the pros and cons of mass blood typing. For one person to be properly typed it takes 30 to 45 minutes and costs approximately $4 to $5. Mistakes have been made in blood types before, so incase of an emergency, the patient must have his blood crossmatched. He added the Red Cross blood is free, but the crossmatching and processing fee is $25 to $30. The Brigham City hospital, he said, gets it blood from the Red Cross and has sufficient quantity on hand and can get almost any blood type in 45 minutes to an hour. With the rare bloods, there are usually five on hand. One rare Bombay blood is only owned by 16 people in the world. (Those people must phone each other every day to see how their health is doing.) However, if the needed blood was impossible to get, the universal O negative would be used. " No Decision The decision to sponsor a mass blood typing was not made at this time. It may be in the future.
