Show I 1 UARY JAMES JACKSON elder james jackson of toquerville Washl ngon county utah died at 6 pm sept 5 1897 after a lingering illness of nearly four years surrounded bp a wife and thirteen children for upwards of two years he had been an invalid and a great sufferer he bore his distress with patience and fortitude never feeling to complain at the provi dences of the almighty in his great affliction truly it has been a great care and responsibility on his family who have been faithful at his bedside by day and by night brother jackson was born february 6 1826 in kent sheffield england and hence was aged 71 years and 7 77 months he be embraced the gospel january 6 1856 in england and emigrated to utah in 1857 coming with a handcart company under the leadership of brother israel evans he first located in lehi where he lived till the fall of 1861 when he was called to the dixie mission ile he settled in toquerville where he has since resided when negotiating for his present home he was undecided as to where to locate when in answer to prayer the spirit whispered to him this is the place for you to settle and he obeyed also during the drouth in dixie some old settlers were moving away and he thought of doing so go when the spirit again asked have you been called he immediately decided to stay he made a visit to england in 1873 and baptized eight of his kindred aft of whom came to zion also fourteen four teea tem more of his relatives emigrated to s utah later on his son wm win D jacc san an is now on a mission to california he leaves two brothers and one dinter in utah and two sisters in eng s land t brother jackson was the fa father their 9 it twenty five children eight of who choth have preceded him as have two his family consisted of the following annis bedford jackson married november 26 1859 died august 2 ISM by whom he had eight children codr now living Martha mcfate jacksom jackcon Jack aon married september 19 1868 by whom lie he had eleven children three died sarah ann jackson married september 19 1868 died may 30 1882 by whom he had eight children oue one died total three wives twenty flye children seventeen living 1 brother jackson lived and hed died ft j x faithful member of the church he e he was an excellent tithe payer one olt OCI the best in the toquerville ward ate was ever willing and on hand to X re spond to any call that vaa made of him he came to zion p pooi coir fc but died now well todo to do ire he always remembered that the lord was entitled to at least a tenth of his I 1 increased increase acrea 4 which he generally paid in cash 1 great respect was shown to him it the fune funera rELI 1 at which there haax large gathering the speakers speake bofto elders levi savage george spilsby BE bu erastus B snow and bishop hurst burst comforting and consoling rel in marks arks were made and each spoke e his integrity and devotion to the of god the family have been cee faithful in nursing watching over him and they ha have ave respect and sympathy of the t e community may brother jackson rest in till the resurrection morn and M may asli family be comforted and blessed respectfully OCCASION occasional morgan mirror sept 18 josea 0 francis left this morning for chi with a train load of sheep belong belonging il moss I latch hatch |
