Show ALBERTA STAKE conference cardston bardston Card ston alberta N W T canada august 25 1897 the quarterly conference of the alberta stake of zion was held in the cardston bardston Card ston meeting house sunday and monday august and prest charles 0 card presiding there were present the presidency of the stake the bishops of the different wards and leading men of the stake also elders Il ders J W and J M tanner from salt lake city sunday 1016 1015 a m A after after fter the opening exercises president card made the opening remarks co the saints to lay aside their cares during conference that they might enjoy the spirit of the lord in assembling to gether patriarch H L hinman spoke of the increased population of the stake and also of the increase of faith and good works WO among the saints in this region elder niels hansen representing the manitoba mission reported the labors of the elders in that region the brethren were lab laboring oring assiduously among the people many believing in their words but on account of existing prejudice had fad not sufficient stability to give obedience to the gospel reports of the aetna ward the high priests quorum seventies and elders quorums and religion classes were then given by the representatives of those organizations show showing ing a laudable activity and increased desire among the saints to perform the various duties assigned to them sunday 2 p m after the opening op ening exercises reports were given of 0 the cardston bardston Card ston leavitt and mountain view wards showing the organizations of those wards to be as complete as circumstances cum stances would permit the sunday schools especially es ally doing a good work among the youth and the saints generally alive to their duties the relief societies of the stake were next reported by sister mary L woolf the members were striving diligently to keep the commandments of the lord and set good examples to those around them sister amy allen alien reported the primary associations of the stake in good working order although laboring under disadvantages in some parts the meetings being well attended and the members striving diligently to perform the duties assigned them elder testified to the truth of elder tanners remarks said the gospel z lobs death of its sting and the grave 0 of its victory but thosa who have not enjoyed the spirit of the gospel goepel cannot comprehend this monday august 10 a m after the opening exercises counselor john A woolf spoke of the blessings the people were enjoying in this land and testified that the saints who came here were moved upon by the spirit of the lord president card then addressed tte con conference ferencie stating it was not read or heard that would profit ng but what we remembered and practiced requested those who were coming in our midst to settle in this land to report themselves and bring certificates of recommendation from their former bishops and unite themselves with us counseled the saints to observe the laws of the land and keep strictly ae laws of the lord elder followed in a brief address in the afternoon president caad gave notice that sunday september ath be genneralli genne rally kept in the different wards as a day of thanksgiving in connection with the fast to be observed on that day the presidency of the high priests quorum were then called and sustained unanimously to labor as home missionaries in connection with the home missionaries of the stake the seventies quorum were then called and unanimously sustained to labor among the youth to induce them to be in regular attendance at the sunday schools and mutual improvement pro association meetings meeting s elder tanner spoke of his experience as a teacher of the youth and ot the circumstances of the saints in alberta in regard to every day schools elder spoke on the subject of education president card made the closing remarks the weather being fine a large attendance was present at all the meetings the spirit of the lord being poured out in much abundance causing a time of rejoicing long to be remembered your brother in the gospel SYLVESTER LOW stake clerk |
