Show Panguitch Middle School 8th grader Emily Moser displays first place trophy from District Spelling Bee. Marshall Thompson, 5th grader at BVES took 2nd place overall trophy as runner-up. Emily Moser Named Top Speller For Third Year Eighth-grader Emily Moser captured cap-tured the spelling crown for Garfield County School District at the annual district spelling bee on Friday, Feb. 25 at the new auditorium audito-rium at Bryce Valley High School. Emily wears the crown comfortably, comfort-ably, since this is the third year in a row the Panguitch Middle Schooler has spelled her way to the top. She is the daughter of Dennis and LeeAnn Moser of Panguitch. Emily took the title after 19 rounds, correctly spelling "perjury" missed by overall runner-up Marshall Mar-shall Thompson, son of Joe and Tr-ish Tr-ish Thompson of Cannonvillc. Marshall a 5th grader at Bryce Valley, Val-ley, had given her a challenge through the 18lh round, but Emily went on to spell "coercion" correctly cor-rectly to capture lop honors. The school district's top spellers included second place winner for middle schoolers, Tiffany Peterson, a 7th grader from Bryce Valley; and third place winner Jennifer Grud, an 8lh grader at Panguitch Middle School. Elementary school winners at the district level included Heidi Thompson (6th, Bryce Valley), second place; and a three-way tic for third among Jennifer Davis (6th, Boulder Elementary), Linda Carter (Escalante Elementary); and Aaron Ross (4lh, Panguitch Elementary). Other individual school winners competing at the district level were Josh Owen, 5th grader, Boulder Elementary; Yolanda Pollock, 6th grader, Bryce Valley; Accy Burningham, Burn-ingham, 4th grader and Wayne Lewis, 5th grader, at Panguitch Elementary. Names for Escalante Elementary and Middle School winners were not submitted. |
