Show Three County Teams Head For Region By John Yardley The new Region 15 Round Robin Tournament begins today (Thursday) in St. George at the old Dixie College gym. All three county teams will be in action. The league play ended with Valley on top and Panguitch, Enterprise and Piute tied for second after last week's action. Panguitch stopped Enterprise 73-64 at Panguitch to force that tic. Piute barely got by Escalante. All that set up the final standings. Following a flip of the coin on Monday morning, the pairings pair-ings are now set for the tournament. Wayne finishes in fifth, Bryce Valley Val-ley sixth, Escalante seventh, and Milford eighth. Valley, in first place will open the tournament at 1:45 p.m. against Milford. That game will be followed by Piute and Wayne as Piute finished fourth in the coin toss. Panguitch plays Bryce Valley as the third and sixth place teams and the final game the first day pits Enterprise against Escalante. The region drill team competition competi-tion will be held on Friday morning at the same location. Panguitch closed out their season sea-son with a come-from-behind win over Enterprise. PHS trailed 59-53 with 6:28 to play in the game, but roared back to a 68-59 lead in the next two minutes to win at the end 73-64. Markay Englestead hit for 18 and Aaron Howard 14, Jeremy LeFevre 8, Jared Black 10, and Jeremy Henry 8. But the big story in this game was the Bobcats held the scoring star for Enterprise, Ryan Banks, to only 1 1 points. Escalante had Piute put away, only to see the T-Bird's Paul Morgan Mor-gan convert free throws to give Piute a two-point win at Escalante. All the league action is now history. The here and now is the Round Robin and in a year like this, no team is safe. Everyone has a legitimate le-gitimate shot at the state tournament. tourna-ment. All four first-day winners are automatically in state. The consolation consola-tion champ faces a playoff next week. |
