Show Water Bonds Carry; Light Vote Recorded i The $30,000 water bond election, held in Gunnison Saturday, won a de-1 cisive victory, the issue carrying- by: a vote of 76. Only 6 votes were cast against the proposition- Out of the to- j tal vote of 82, perhaps the smallest ever -recorded on a similar proposition, proposi-tion, district 1 registered 5 against, and district 2 had one opponent to the bond. Leading politicians declared that the issue, which is of vital importance impor-tance to Gunnison, should have brought out more voters, as the full Sentiment was sought by the city of-ficers of-ficers who were desirous of getting the -expression of the taxpayers. The interest in favor of the bond, however, proves satisfactory, and the city is now assured of a wide improvement in the water supply. Already the bonds have been purchased, pur-chased, being taken over by the Snow-Goodart company, a Salt Lake City bonding company. While a $30,-000 $30,-000 issue had been voted, Mayor J. S. Peterson told a paper representative representa-tive '. -that only one-half of that amount would be borrowed at this time, it being sufficient to carry out the present plans of the first unit. ;Carl A.' Erikson, city engineer, started Tuesday to make a number of surveys along the system between the source. of the water supply just below Sterling, to the water tower north of tovn. The source of the greatest possible pos-sible trouble with the deteriorating pipe is along the highway between Gunnison and Christenburg. This trouble will be corrected just as soon as the surveys are complete and plans can. be arranged to start work. Other places, too, will come under the immediate im-mediate attention and new pipe will supplant the old, rotton, wooden pipe line.' . .That portion of the bonds to be drawn at once, $15,000, will be used in purchasing and replacing the pipe ' line. ,where needed most, purchase of water rights and installation of the works.. . |
