Show RETREAT OF BRITISH PLANNED Allies Had Arranged to Meet German Rush Months Ago. Washington. The British withdrawal withdraw-al before the German advance was made according to prearranged plans and is "all over now," Major General J. Franklin Bell told the senate military mili-tary committee on Friday. He sub1 the allies have known of the German preparations for the present drive since soon after they were begun, and made active preparations to face it. General Bell recently returned from the battle front. General Bell was called by the senate sen-ate military committee to inform the members regarding conditions on the battlefield. General Bell explained some of the scientific means used by a modern army to detect gunfire, and gave assurance as-surance that General Pershing was doing do-ing everything in the way of establishing establish-ing schools back of the American lines in order to train his men in the use of such methods. That the most advanced trench is never held in times of a serious attack was explained by General Bell, who said they are principally used for lookout look-out purposes. |
