Show The Ogden Valley news Page Volume XIV Issue XV October 15, 2007 Representative Gage Froerer Calls for Property Tax Reform In response to growing concerns over property tax increases, state Rep. Gage Froerer, R-Huntsville, met with a coalition of real estate leaders this week to discuss possible reforms to Utah’s property tax system. Among the groups involved was the Utah Association of Realtors, a staunch advocate for homeowners that has been fighting property tax increases for a number of years. “Even though we have the 14th-lowest property tax burden in the U.S., I’m concerned about the recent property tax spikes that could force senior citizens and other Utahns out of their homes,” Froerer said. “Property taxes are still too high and are unbearable for many segments of the population. I’m meeting with a number of groups so we can work together to solve the problem.” Froerer introduced a number of possible property tax reforms to the business groups, including, but not limited to, the following concepts: Expanding the 45% exemption for homeowners who have multiple-acre lots Creating a tax-deferral program for seniors Increasing tax exemptions for lowerincome Utahns Replacing a portion of property taxes with other types of taxes Requiring a public referendum for all property tax increases Limiting the amount property taxes can increase each year The Utah Association of Realtors state that they are a firm supporter of affordable homeownership, and have constantly fought proposals that would raise Utahns’ property tax burden. “We are dedicated to doing all that we can to promote and preserve homeownership,” said UAR Chief Executive Officer Chris Kyler. “That means finding proposals and supporting legislation that will prevent Utahns from being forced to sell their homes because of taxes.” COOKING cont. from page 5 fashion. An artist paints a “masterpiece” during the event that represents and exemplifies the sights, smells, and tastes that inspires them during the cooking event. The audience is then able to view the final painting at the end. Live music adds fun and an upbeat ambience, making the event a combination of food, art, and music. “I have never attended an event like Cooking Delight. Jennifer does a great job hosting, and the food is fantastic! I was even painting on a canvas that was being passed around the audience while we listened to a great vocalist/guitarist and watched a ‘real’ artist bring a painting to life, ate great food, learned how to cook new dishes, and acquired a lot of kitchen tips!” stated one CDE attendee. The community has supported the Cooking Delight Experience in more ways than just through attendance and booking events, states Burnes. “Valley Market was a sponsor for a couple of the events and handed out flyers in the store. Most of the events are held in Ogden and the Valley, but they will soon begin to expand to Salt Lake City and Park City. “I would like to do more private events and parties in the Valley because it is in my backyard and I enjoy meeting the people in the community. We can customize any experience and adjust the cost based on the elements we include such as the musician, artist, menu, etc.,” says Burns. The Cooking Delight Experience is available for private parties and events, and can be held at most retail locations. Book a CDE event or purchase tickets by calling 801-745-3170. Future events, along with photos of past events are updated regularly at <www.CookingDelightExperience.com> Seats are limited for every class so reserve your seat ahead of time.
