Show Volume XIV Issue XV The Ogden Valley news Page 15 October 15, 2007 The “Hots and Nots” of 2007— Snowcrest Junior High School Celebrates Junior High life today What’s hot for 2007 –2008? I asked the student government officers at Snowcrest Junior High School. “Ipod’s and cell phones,” students immediately called out. “Cell phones and Ipods are hot, but at school they are not,” added Mr. Wardle their school principal. The “in” fashion for the season includes Roxy brand clothing for the girls, along with skinny jeans. Skinny jeans are jeans that are slim fitting, from waist to ankle, unlike the boot-leg cut jeans that were popular for the last couple of years. The mini skirt is making a come back along with big jewelry such as hoop earrings. “Tight shirts are hot, big ones are not,” the students explained—the reverse of the eighties. For the boys, Hollister jeans are a popular choice, along with Converse shoes. The Fohawk, a modified version of the Mohawk, is the trendy hairstyle for the year. When wearing a Fohawk, it is not necessary to shave the sides of the head like the typical Mohawk. With the Flowhawk just the top portion of the hair is spiked, and is often worn with the hair coming to a point above the forehead. Student Government officers threw out diverse answers when it came to music. “Rap” is hot students indicated, although all rap music has to be approved by the school principal before it can be played at school dances and stomps. Country was another popular choice. Approximately half the students at school listen to country music with favorite artists including Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, and Kenny Chesney. If you ask the junior high girls “who’s hot?” The most common answer is Zac Efron. “A lot of girls have pictures of him in their locker,” students confided. School Concerns “What problems do students at Snowcrest Junior High School encounter?” “Keeping the school clean,” the students concluded. “It’s hard to get students to clean up their trash around the building.” “Another problem is some students use bad language.” “I think cliques can be a problem at our school,” the girls said. “Sometimes kids get into their own little groups and they don’t reach out to other students.” School Wish List “What we need most is to get our school track completed,” the students stated unanimously. “Oh, and if we could get bigger lockers, and more dances. . . .” a few of the seventh grade officers suggested hopefully. Why not dream big? “What are school needs is unity and more spirit—that’s what we’re striving for,” the Snowcrest Student Body Officers concluded. Students at Old Fire House Learn About the Heart Dr. Blake Wachter will be in Eden visiting at Old Fire House Learning Academy to teach students about healthy hearts.
