Show Volume XIV Issue XV The Ogden Valley news Page 13 October 15, 2007 Snowcrest Softball Team Plays Incredible Last Season Game What a thriller! The umpires surely earned their money at Snowcest’s last season game against North Ogden. The eight inning game lasted four hours. “It was the finest Snowcrest fast pitch game in the history of the school,” stated Coach Doug Dickson. “What a game to have played in, or coached, or even watched. It truly was one of Snowcrest’s softball highlights.” There was more then electricity in the air. Coach Douglas Dickson exclaimed that it was the greatest game he’d ever coached. There was chemistry between the players who were focused on one thing—to win the game that Snowcrest had led from the top of the first inning where they scored five runs. After four innings, Snowcrest had 12 runs to North Ogden’s two. After six innings of play, Snowcrest was 15, and North Ogden 13. With still 1 hour and 20 minutes to play, at the bottom of the seventh inning, the score is all tied up 16 to 16. The Snowcrest team makes a commitment to each other. Their coach asks, “How bad do you want it?” “Real bad!” Over and over team members yell, “Real bad.” Coach Dickson responds, “I can’t hear you!” But the Snowcrest Skyhawks were heard, and scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Macy Rasley started on 2nd per the tie breaking rules, then stole 3rd base, and then home when two catchers dropped balls. Ana Richards walked, then stole 2nd and 3rd when Kate Martin smashed the ball to right center getting a stand up double. She stole 3rd and Sunny Wood got a hit. North Ogden threw the ball to home as Kate slid safe, colliding with the catcher. Two more outs and North Ogden put a runner on 2nd base. She stole 3rd then scored on a sacrifice; 1 out. The next batter hits a homerun over the team’s center fielder who just missed being thrown out at home; 19 to 18 with 1 out then the play of the game. The next player drove a high line drive down first base line. Jesse Furgeson, just like a pro, went after the high ball, snow coning the ball. But the velocity was too great; it popped right out, and was redirected toward 2nd base where Ana Richardson’s fast reflexes and basket type catch clinched the second out. But the North Ogden girls stayed focused and hit two more homeruns and earned the victory 20 tot 19. What a game! What a game! WHAT A GAME! For the first time in the school’s record, the Snowcrest team had no shut out games during the entire season; they scored in every game. 2007 Snowcrest Softball team members include: Sunny Wood, 3rd; Gabby Leo, 2nd; Quincy Johnson, SS; Christine Black, P; Selest Martinez, FDH; Macye Rasley, C Kilsie Tatton, CF; Ana Richardson, 1st Melissa Tidwell, RF; Paige Brook, LF Jessica Furgeson; Kate Martin; Kennedy Gretta ; Zoe ; Paige Phalen, team manager The team was coached by Douglas Dickson, MaryAnn Allen, Richard Schneider, and Lewis Johnson. Coach Dickson is asking for community support in developing a competitive league softball team whose members would feed into Snowcrest so the school can begin to successfully compete against other junior high teams in the district. A competitive league team would provide the opportunity for softball players to adequately train and be ready to compete with rival junior high teams whose members usually begin playing together years prior to reaching junior high. Couch Dickson would like to start with a 5th grade recreation team so that players will be trained and ready by the time they begin attending Snowcrest. This year’s Snowcrest team only began playing and practicing together a few short weeks before the season began. Parents are needed to help with coaching, fundraising, and secretarial positions. Snowcrest Jr. High Track Nears Completion Snowcrest Softball Team Progress is being made toward completion of the Snowcrest Track and Field in Eden. Shown above, Marsh Construction sets the curbing for the track with cement donated by J. B. Parson Companies. Construction of the track has been a community effort spearheaded by Cynthia Beck of Eden. Along with several thousands of dollars in donations made by individual community members, a number of large donations have also been made by Brian Deeter of JUB Engineers Inc., John Lewis of Destination Eden, Marsh Construction, J.B. Parson Companies, Jeff Post of Post Asphalt Paving & Construction, Thom Summers, and Dave Wadman.
