Show v. m i in i THE YUCCAS. The yuccas are an interesting claps of plants, particularly so to people in a northern climate, where flowers and even foliage of this character is so scarce. They give to the garden some-thing some-thing of an oriental or tropical rppear-unce rppear-unce that is exceedingly pleasant There are several varieties, but Y. tUamentosa is the hardiest, and we hink will endure almost any of our Northern winters. It is called Jldam's jcedle, because the leaves are sharp v pointed and throw off from their edges numerous fine threads. It rends up a strong flowerstem in the middle " Qi ' Jig of the summer, bearing a lare spike of whitish flowers. The Yucca is an evergreen ev-ergreen perennial and delights in a r ch soil We usualy throw over the plant a few evergreen boughs or something of the kind, as a slight winter protec lion.
