Show Mammoth. Cave Poetry. (New York Wrorld.) Representative John Wesley Gaines of Tennessee ran afoul of Representative Representa-tive Grosvenor the other day. Gros-venor Gros-venor said one of Gaines' statements was a "shameless statement." Gaines replied in a long speech, in which he quoted numerous legal decision. After Aft-er he had finished Grosvenor rose and said: "I can sum up what I think of Mr. Gaines in a bit of poetry I once saw on a hotel register at the MaHimoth cave in Kentucky. It read: " 'Oh. Mammoth cave, what a spot! In summer cold. In winter hot. God Almighty, what a wonder " Grosvenor stopped. "Go on and finish fin-ish It,' . said Representative Shattuc. "Well," said Grosvenor, "the poet ran out of ammunition then, for he closed like this: " 'Andrew Jackson, hell and thunder!' " |
