This year there are 33,137 names in it, not counting firms, corporations, cor-porations, death or removal notices, a net gain of 2,573. According to the computations of Secretary Sec-retary Cooper, his directory gives Salt Lake and its suburbs a total population of 87,842. Explaining his deductions, he says : "Heretofore, in computing the population, popu-lation, we have used the multiple of 2, which is as low, if not lower, than the multiple used in most western cities. We have decided to use a still lower multiple this year, 2, and by so doing a population of 87,842 is indicated. indi-cated. It should be remembered that we do not confine our canvass to the limits of the city, but take in all the suburbs, as far as Beck's Hot Springs on the north, the south end of Murray on the south, Brighton and North Point wards on the west, and Fort Douglas on the east." |
