Show Easter. THE penitential season is at an end and the glorious feast of Easter, the most important celebration by the church, is with us. It derives its supreme significance from the fact that without the resurrection all that had gone before would have come to naught. When Christ died on the cross He made the supreme sacrifice of a man for his fellow men. When He rose from the tomb triumphant, He proved Himself God, the Forgiver of sins and Founder of the church which should carry on His work until the end of time. Those who attack the Christian religion re-ligion bring all their arguments to bear to refute the truth of the resurrection. The birth and death of Christ they admit ad-mit as undisputed historical facts, but they deny that He rose from the dead on the third day. Yet the proofs of all three events are precisely the same, and the weakness of their position lies in their failure to show wherein the evidence evi-dence is weaker in one case than it is in the other two. |
