The close of schools and convents at St. Pierre, Niquelou. by the removal of the Brothers Broth-ers of Ploermel of Brittany and Sisters of St. Joseph de Cluny, because of the French law in reference to religious orders, has caused a sensation on the islands and petitions are being forward ed to the French government. The residents res-idents of the island also protest against the 00 per cent tariff recently enforced. The claim is made that the colony is more than self-sustuining and that its wishes are entitled to ennsidora Lion. Annexation to Canada has been suggested sug-gested in Halifax. |
