Show V Lcdy Softballers Doing VJcll In Program ; By DAVE WIGHAM BOUNTIFUL - With all the . 'ten's softball and baseball tegues going on it would be 501 asy to overlook the ladies, :ju there is a group of ladies Mrom Bountiful that are jturrently undefeated in the l-s jOavis County program. THE BOBBY Soxers, as lit 'ley are affectionately called, a i t a group of avid sof tbal lers s im the word go. They take m mir game seriously, and at ieirW record would prove ; i " .l Competing in the B League J. !il the county program the liners have already knocked "U powers like the Parkettes lis, Wasatch Plumbing 10-5, Pea Nutz 8-4 and the Cracker Jacks 10-8. Other catchy names include Ships Belles and the Moms and Misses. THE COUNTY runs a program for leagues in A, B and C. The Bobby Soxers moved up from the C League this year by winning in the C League a year ago. The way they are going next year looks like the A League. Pitching for the Soxers is Kathy Massey who has both good speed and control. There are some pitchers in the league with more speed on the ball but none with the control to match Kathy. Catching is Randie Croshaw who is relatively rela-tively new at the position but catching on fast, no pun intended. in-tended. FIRST BASE is currently held down by Iva Croshaw, at this writing she is at first, although by the time you read it she might not be. Iva is overdue having a baby, but she hasn't missed a game thus far. At second base is Paula Cleverly who is as ,fast , .as anyone in the league. ' Char Reed and Richelle Welling hold down the left side of the infield with Char at shortstop and Richelle at third. Char has good range on the ball while Richelle has a strong throwing arm. If Iva misses any games the word is that Richelle will go to first. THE OUTFIELD is solid with LeAnn Davis in left, LeAnne Schow in center and either Wendy or Leesa Williams usually in right. Davis has exceptional speed also on the base paths which result in a lot of stolen bases. ' Sharon Harvey, Suzzette Davis and Karen Rigby round out the club with Sharon and Suzzette infielders and Karen an outfielder. COACHING THE girls is Ken Ririe who seems to enjoy the task while taking it quite seriously. Ken has them run- P "" - ma I' II i ui in. i. ning every chance they get while they seem to be able to hold the opposition's running game in check. The girls play their games on Tuesday and Wednesday in either Farmington or Kays-ville. Kays-ville. It's a different setup to see the men in the stands cheering for their wives, but the girls play a good brand of ball and they're fun to watch. |
