Show Search And Rescue At Hill Is Reorganized HILL AFB - The helicopter search and rescue function at Hill AFB is being reorganized. reor-ganized. LT. COL. Donald J. Rensch now commands Detachment four. He was the detachment's detach-ment's operations officer. Lt. Col. Joseph . Symonds, former detachment commander, com-mander, will become operations opera-tions officer for the 40th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron. THE SQUADRON will be activitated at Hill AFB on July 1. It will have administrative adminis-trative authority over all Air Force light-lift helicopter detachments de-tachments west of the Mississippi Missis-sippi River, including Detachment De-tachment four. Headquarters for the squadron will be 39th Aerospace Rescue and Recover Wing at Elgin AFB, Fla. Squadron commander will be Lt. Col. Fred Berghold who will arrive at Hill AFB in several weeks. THE organizational change will mean a total of some 75 military personnel assigned to the detachment and squadron, an increase of 14 people. Establishment of a squadron will mean a quicker response to emergencies. THE DETACHMENT has six UH-1N Huey helicopters assigned to it. So far this year the detachment has flown 12 search and rescue missions and has saved 13 people. |
