Show OGSt DHL PBlffe fflop-eauioi Efioao By ALICE MITCHELL Mayor Arch Widdison and members of the city council, Eli Mitchell, Max Hall, Vera Belcher. Harriet Stephens and Eric Eastman, urge every citizen of West Bountiful Boun-tiful to voluntarily cut back on the use of water. THE COUNCIL plans to discuss, in the next meeting, ways and means that the city will have to put into effect in order to save water. During a meeting at the Davis County Council of Government, held Feb. 16, 1977, the problem of water supply was discussed at great length. WAYNE Winegar, former West Bountifulite, and manager of the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, reviewed with the county commissioners and the mayors of Davis County of seriousness of the water situation si-tuation for 1977. Mr. Winegar pointed out that several of the reservoirs owned by the district are nearly empty and cannot be filled, until other reservoirs, with prior water rights are filled. BECAUSE of the extreme lack of snow, it now appears that none of these reservoirs will be filled to capacity. As a result of these circumstances, Weber Basin will be able to deliver only about 60 per cent of the normal amount of water during 1977. In as much as West Bountiful Boun-tiful has always obtained its entire supply of water from Weber Basin, the effect on the city is quite obvious. Everyone is going to have to get along with less water this year. UNTIL standards are clearly set in West Bountiful, Mayor Widdison and the council repeat the 10 suggestions sugges-tions that have been made to conserve water: Check every faucet for leaks. Just a slow drip can waste 15 or 20 gallons a day. Put a bit of food coloring in the toilet tank to see if it leaks into the bowl. DON'T SHOWER too long or fill the tub too full when bathing. Help more to remember to put a full load in the machine, laundry and dishes. Don't let the faucet run for a cold drink. Keep a jug of water cooling in the refrigerator. Remember, too, not to leave water running for tooth brushing, hand washing, vegetable cleansing or dish scraping. Use only what's needed. Don't use the toilet to flush away tissues, gum wrappers, used erasers or other scraps. It's not a trash can and every flush takes five to seven gallons of water. WATER THE lawn and garden with good sense. See that the water goes where it should and isn't on too long. Never use the hose to clean off the driveway. A broom is better. Wash the car from a bucket. Use the hose only to rinse it off afterwards. Each of the citizens can put these suggestions into effect immediately. Such action will go a long way toward the goal the city seeks. MAYOR Widdison and the council thank the citizens for their cooperation and assure them that they will be kept posted on further developments, develop-ments, am |
