Show THE GRAND ARMY BALL. Last Night's Entertaining Social by the Old Soldiers at the Opera House. The G.A. II. ball in the Walker Opera House last night was a success in every particular, and was one of the most enjoyable en-joyable reunions of the organization. There was a large attendance and everybody every-body seemed delighted with the evening's pleasure. The decorations and the suggestive sug-gestive appointments of the hall brought up some vivid and thrilling recollections to some of the old soldiers, and the amus-ing amus-ing capture of a colored contraband of war, which was enacted during a brief intermission, afforded some considerable enjoyment. This feature fea-ture was rendered bv Mr. W. W. Bin ft of the Minstrel troupe, who kindly vol-untered vol-untered his services to please the old soldiers with a reminder of by-gone days on the front. His song, "I Am Going Back to Dixie," was sung in a rich sweet bass, and his frequent encores brought forth "Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep" and the "Old Sexton," which were highly appreciated by the guests. During the 'evening the ladies of the Relief Corps spread a bounteous repast, which was as thoroughly appreciated as any feature of the occasion. The affair was as much a financial as social success, and this is saying a good deal. Among our prominent citizens present were Colonel Godfrey, Judge Carlton and Hon. A. S. Taddock. of the Utah Commission, Com-mission, Governor Murray. Major Stanton, Stan-ton, Captain Badger", Captain Boker, Lieutenants Byrne and Bickert. The ite want seemed to have turned out in force, as we ierceived Receiver W. H Bancroft, Mr. S. W. Eccles, F. F. Eccles, T. J. Duddleson, George B. Dodge, J. C McCaddon, O. Zane, W. W. Biown Frank Selgrath, II. H. Ryan, S. C. Smith! J. Williams, O. S. Lambert and Mr. Curry. The silver interest was represented repre-sented by Matt. Cullen, Billy Gallager, W. F. James and others, and among the cowboys" we noticed W. P. Noble, Mr Swan and Mr. Alvis. |
