Show IN ST. PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL. Grand Ceremonies of the Catholic Church in Conferring- the Pal- Hum on Archbishop Corrian. New Yoek, March 3. With solemn pomp and the wealth of an impressive ceremonial the pallium will be conferred on Archbishop Corrigan in St. Patrick's Cathedral on Thursday. The conferring of the pallium will formally install Archbishop Corrigan as head of the Archdiocese and Ecclesiastical Province of New York. Archbishop Elder of Cincinnati, who arrived on the "Gallia" to-day, brings from Rome the pallium. It is a short mantle of lambs wool bearing the cross, always sent by the Pope to an Archbishop Arch-bishop on his accession to his See. The See of New York is one of the most important in the world, and the installation of its head will gather a concourse of all the greatest ecclesiastical dignitaries of the Roman Catholic Church in the country. Solemn pontifical high mass will be celebrated. The : Archbishop, seated on the archepisoopal throne which has been vacant since the death of Cardinal McCloskey, will receive the homage of the clergy of the diocese, and the pallium will be placed oh his shoulders by Archbishop Gibbons of Baltimore, Balti-more, soon to become a cardinal. The ceremonies cere-monies begin at 10 a. m., when Archbishop Corrigan will go from his house to the cathedral accompanied by a procession of priests and acolytes. I |
