Show THE BAIL BILL. It M as quite natural that the individuals individ-uals in this community who have been indicted in-dicted for polygamy and unlawful cohabitation cohabi-tation and are now awaiting trial,-and the many others who have not yet been indicted but who are conscious of the fact that they ought to be, should feel somewhat sore over the refusal of the Executive to a sign the bail bill recently sent to him for his approval. The Democrat does not always agree with Governor Murray in the reasons he assigns for his official actions, but in this case we believe he has done -just what the peculiar condition of affairs here warranted war-ranted him in doing. He gives one reason for vetoing the bill which, to our mind, is all-sufficient. It is as follows : The fact that the dockets and time of the courts are taken up, in cases growing out of this determined defense of polygamy, and that every technicality known to the laws-has laws-has been resorted to in order to delay and defeat the execution of laws denouncing the system, imperatively demands of the Executive Execu-tive to retam every statute which is just and applicable that guards the administration of I justice. I The time has arrived when all the enginery en-ginery of the government necessary to be used8houldbe brought into requisition to stamp out this infamous business. Justice, pure and simple, should be meted out to' all offenders, and when justice is done to the great bulk of those who have violated the provisions of the anti-polygamy law, they will get about all they need to teach them the lesson that they cannot with impunity continue to defy the law in this free country. |
