Delegates to the State Republican Convention are arriving very Blowly. ' To-night there are not more than 309 of them in town. No L caucuses will be held before to-morrow night, vhen it is expected all the delegates will be on the ground. It is said by delegates now here that never before in the history of New York politics have Republicans been so slow in maturing their plans; that there is abso- lutely no ground at this time npon which to form an opinion as to who will be nominated. nomi-nated. Among those known to be candidates are James D. Warren, of Buffalo, late chairman chair-man of the State committee; Joseph W. Drexel, late of Drexel, Morgan & Co.; Judge Noah Davis, Ira "Davenport; William H. Seward, Hon. Levi P. Morton, and Secretary of State, Joseph B. Barr. There are several others, who will not possibly receive more than complimentary votes. The workers of the party do not hesitate to say that there is not yet any programme, and that the probabilities are there will be none until all the delegates have arrived and conferences be had. All the delegates profess to be for harmony and the best possible pos-sible candidates. The upper country delegates dele-gates appear to be relying on the New York delegation to present the name upon which they can harmonize, and the city delegates say the nominee must be a New York City man. It is believed the result will be the eeleotion of a candidate from that city, although al-though there are many here who think favorably fav-orably of Seward. Sabatoga. N. Y., September 21. Delegates to the Republican State Convention are arriving ar-riving in large numbers to-day. There is no concentration of strength upon any one candidate worth chronicling. . The . more prominent candidates are Alonzo B. Cornell, Cornelius N. Bliss, Ira W. Davenport, J. W. Drexel, Joseph B. Can, Levi It. Morton, J. D. Warren, William H. Seward, and James Wadsworth, for Governor. New York county is said to hold the key to the situation situa-tion and the city delegates are hard at work endeavoring to harmonize npon a candidate. |
