| Show HON JOHN HAILEYS POSITION Is Hon William Woodburn Republican Repub-lican Congressman from Nevada the author and introdncer of the Utah bill of the last session good authority upon matters pertaining to the Mormon issue He says that John Hailey is as sound upon the question as himself and that his action at Washington last winter proved him to be so Will anybody question Mr Woodburns fidelity to the loyal cause or believe that he would endorse en-dorse a political opponent in this matter unless he was justified by the facts in doing do-ing sol John Hailey was the prime mover in ejecting the Mormon Delegates from the Democratic Territorial Convention Conven-tion and positively refused to accept the nomination at its hands unless it was done He was the leading spirit in the formulation of the platform adopted by the Convention man which no stronger declaration of antiMormon principles could be expressed in the If same number of words He has since made a number of speeches in the Territory I C Ter-ritory in which he went far beyond the provisions of the platform in his denunciation denun-ciation of the lecherous and treasonable I practices of the Mormon Church and its methods and declaring the necessity for the enactment of the most rigid National and Territorial laws for their suppression How do the assertions of one of the leading antiMormon Republican Congressmen Con-gressmen who was intimately associated with Mr Hailey during the last session the acts and words of the gentleman himself and the attitude of the Mormon press towards him correspond with the vague and unsupported charges I of a morning paper of this city Does the Republican organ hate Democracy so much worse than Mormonism that it thus makes common cause with the latter lat-ter as against the former It would certainly cer-tainly appear so But the coalition inspired by partisan rancor and priestly dictation will not prevail in the face of the facts made apparent by unquestionable unquestion-able endorsement and the words and acts of a man whose truthfulness and sincerity sin-cerity have never been suspected by those who know him best John Hailey will be elected despite the unholy alliance alli-ance of Republican partizanship with S Mormon treason o |
