Show PIXE CREEK MINES Miners ana Prospectors Continue to Pour in IVcw Discoveries I 1 A gentleman from Eastern Oregon arrived ar-rived in Portland yesterday says the I Vents of the 27th and brings favorable j reports from the Pine Creek mines which I lie visited last week He says the I stampede to the mines increases with j I each successive day and the stampeders are from all sections but the majority are old Comstock miners The new towns are growing and business enterprises enter-prises of various kinds are being inaugurated in-augurated At precent saloons predominate pre-dominate as they usually do in new mining camps but there is also a showing show-ing in other branches Work on the mines is being prosecuted with considerable vigor and the Whitman Whit-man which is under bond for 40000 has attained a depth of forty feet The vein still carries its width of three feet uniformly and the ore is of the same rich character as found at the grass roots on first discovery There are fully twelve tons of this class of ore on the dump which has been taken out as the shaft was sunk no drifting having been done neither will there be any until the shaft has been sunk fifty feet Six men are engaged en-gaged in the work of development The Lucky Boy which is located on top of the mountains two miles west of the Whitman is down fifteen feet on the vein which is two fact wide the ore in which assays 415 gold and 30 silver per perI ton There are two or three tons of this I class of ore on the dump This property is owned by Bowles the discoverer On the lied Jacket two men are at work This is the mine from which ore assaying 610 gold was taken and is now under bond The shaft is down twenty five feet and the dump contains five or six tons The Emmett which shows free gold is in litigation I is a good property and L should be worked Other discoveries have been made on the headwaters of Eagle Creek on Granite Gran-ite mountain containing free milling ore of excellent quality Among these is the Eclipse with a twofoot vein There are four tons on the dump Also the Golden Bell which is about a quarter of a mile east of the Eclipse This property has a fine vein of rosecolored quartz which assays 280 per ton gold These two properties together to-gether with fourteen other less prominent discoveries are owned by Meiratt Thompson Patton and Cooke of Portland Port-land who purpose putting men on them and will carry on work till snow flies |
