Show MINING AND SMELTING I II I A Dull Week for Ore Dealers The Gcrmania Starts Up i THE ORE MARKET 1 Mr A Hanauer reports a dull week and but little activity in the ore market The mountain roads are in a bad condition condi-tion yet and it will be several weeks before be-fore the movement of ore is increased Everything is running smoothly at the Morgan smelter two stacks being in operation Mr Hanauer was asked what effect if any the Eastern wars would have on the lead market and replied that no improvement improve-ment was yet perceptible Lead is very quiet and dull said Mr Hanauer but I look for a rise I am confident I it will i go up to 375 very soon Of course if a war of any magnitude and duration takes place in the East it will have a stimulating effect on all branches of American industry and mining will share in the general prosperity but the war news have not as yet created any advance ad-vance in the bullion market THE SAMPSON Work is still being vigorously prosecuted prose-cuted in the Sampson tunnel and there are constantly increasing indications that the vein is nearly reached It is expected ex-pected that it will be encountered during the present month The monthly output of the mine is about fifty tons of ore which is taken out of the old works and is worth from 70 to 75 per ton TIlE QERMANIA The Gcnnania smelter that has been closed for repairs for several weeks resumed re-sumed operations last Monday One stack is being run at present It was reported re-ported on the street yesterday that Mr F W Billing was to be given the management man-agement of this smelter but this report is denied at the companys office RUNNING SMOOTHLY All goes well at the mines nowadays Men are being put to work whenever an opening is made but the supply of first class miners isand has always been greater than the demand The Queen of the Hills is employing seventyfive men about the mine and concentrator and the Minnie Moore between forty and fifty Ore shipments are being made regularly The guards are still retained at both mines Bellevue Chronicle AN EARLY SEASON Very little is being done in the Alta mines at present but the coming season promises to be a lively and a long one It is thought the D R G company will be able to open the tramway by the first nf next montn wincli will be two which wuui iJe LW months earlier than last year MINING NOTES Crescent stock still seems to be on the rise There were several transfers dur ing the past week at 1 and some at 106 Local holders were asking 110 today The Horn Silver bullion is not all sent East yet several shipments having been recorded during the past week The Last Chance tunnel at Bingham is being pushed ahead at the rate of four feet a day The machine drills will be I put in operation next month when more rapid progress will be made I |
