Show 1 FOUND DEAD The Dead Body of a Young Man from Connecticut is Found in Weber Canyon Some little excitement was raised at the depot last evening on the receipt of news that a dead body had been found in Weber Canyon near the Weber Station Through the letters and other things found with the remains the body has been identified as that of a young man i named C E Shelley whose home was i in Madison Connecticut It appears the unfortunate young man passed through here on the 4th of last August from the West He bought his ticket to the East in San Francisco and that was exchanged here by Mr Jos H Young The num her of the check found upon the body was one of the points that led to his identification Mr James Forbes has from time to time received considerable correspondence from the sheriff of the county where Shelleys folks reside re-side inquiring if some clue which would lead to his discovery might not be found as the missing man was the only support of his parents His mother has died in the meantime from grief through not hearing from her son and his father is failing fast from the same cause From our correspondent atCroydenMr John Toone we learn the following particulars par-ticulars The body was found on Tuesday Tues-day April 6th by a young man named i Chas Chocketts who was hunting a horse I in the bottoms about one mile from Croy den and while looking around in the brush he came across the corpse He went to the settlement and informed the justice of the peace Mr Thackery who obtained assistance and repaired to the place where the remains laid On examination a pistol was found on the breast of the deceased who was laying on his back and it was discovered that he was shot in the right temple A little money in silver a watch some keys and a number of letters were found upon the body An inquest was held and the jury returned a verdict that the deceased came to his death by his own hand A coffin was prepared and the remains were buried on Wednesday on the hill near where the body was found It has been ascertained that the young man went out on a train on which there were a party of gentlemen who went to meet Governor Murray on the 4th of August The engine broke down a little way east of Weber and the train had to wait for another engine In the meantime mean-time the passengers strolled around the place and it is evident the young man wandered off and Tor some cause or other which probably will never be known he took his own life Ogden Herald |
