Show FLATTERY Flatter is the food of the fool flattery is the thing for which weak minds long and which base minds give He who accepts ac-cepts flattery renders up his manhood to be a tool for those who have no manhood man-hood To flatter is to deceive andto deceive de-ceive is to destroy To deny truth and seek to show things in a light other than the true one is to be dishonest dis-honest with those to whom the representations rep-resentations are made and untrue to those in whose behalf such representations representa-tions are made The call and the occasion occa-sion for such reflections as these is the wonder what will the conference committee com-mittee say in their report to the President Presi-dent on the condition of affairs in Utah Would it not be well for the gentlemen composing this committee to call on ex Delegate Cannon and Delegate Caine and inquire of them what assurances they got from President Cleveland when they called on him and made their representations representa-tions as to the terrorizing which was going on here on account of the actions of the courts Will the committee com-mittee tell the President that it was hoped and expected that with the advent of a Democratic Administration to power there would be a suspension of the prosecutions pros-ecutions now going on under the anti polygamy laws as these other gentlemen did And if they do will they receive in reply the same assurances as did ex Delegate Cannon and Delegate Caine That reply was the assurance that they need not lay the flattering unction to their souls that there would be any suspension sus-pension of the prosecutions Would it not be best for the committee to ponder well this assurance before they make any report No gentlemen the days for flattering an Administration are gone and it would be well for you to heed the W fact |
