Show Closing Down Montana Mines During the month of August all work was suspended on several of the producing pro-ducing rn nes of Montana On the 21st ultimo the Anaconda mine closed down thereby throwing nearly 200 men out of employment Two weeks previous to that about 150 men were laid off from the same mine making 350 miners who have deen deprived of their means of support The Centreville M T Mining Journal says that the Anaconda people refused to be interviewd and the only reason assigned as-signed by those who are in a position to know is that the low price of copper will not justify the working of the mines Some people claim that some defects at the smelter is the cause of the mine closing clos-ing down some say that the move is an organized effort to reduce wages while not a few are of the opinion that the Anaconda Ana-conda mines and smelter have been purchased pur-chased by an English company who con trol the copper market and that a Superintendent Super-intendent Gilbert will shortly arrive here and start up the works Eureka Sentinel I |
