Show HOW WAS IT DONE A Strange Occurrence in ICunab Canyon as Related by an Kc Witness Mr IL K Johnson a man who has knocked about considerably in the Western West-ern country and who has seen many strange sights was met last evening by a DEMOCRAT reporter to whom he related re-lated the following experience which occurred oc-curred one day last week in Kanab canyon can-yon Johnson with a party of three prospectors pros-pectors was passing down the canyon where the county has been repairing the road when their attention was suddenly attracted by a loud shout to a party of men on the side of one of the mountains They could not hear what the men said but from their signs Johnson soon concluded con-cluded that there was a blast ahead He stopped his horse and all turned around Their pack horse had gone on some distance dis-tance ahead and it was too late to bring him back so they gave the animal up asa as-a goner After getting away a safe distance they turned and waited for the explosion In a few moments there was the usual dull report the cloud of smoke and the rocks flying in eyery direction When the blast exploded they saw that the pack horse was just in front of the ledge in which the powder had been set and at the instant of the report the animal stopped for a moment as though stunned and then walked on as leisurely as ever Upon the top of the pack there had been tied a large copper coffee pot which was dangling at the horses side when he reached the above mentioned spot Upon reaching the spot where the horse had stopped Johnson picked up the coffee pot mashed as flat as a plate The vessel had evidently been struck on the top and flattened down so that what had been the top rim was now resting on the bottom There was no rock within ten feet of the spot and even if there had been it would not explain how the pot could have been knocked into such a shape without the horse or the rest of the pack having been disturbed No probable solution has yet been given of the phenomenon and it is likely that it will remain as unanswerable as the great interrogatory Who struck Billy Patterson I |
