Show i A POLICEMAN THE TOILS Andrew Smith Caught Up on a Charge of Illegal Coliau This morning at 10 oclock Deputy Marshal Mar-shal Greenman armed with the allpow erful United States warrant of arrest visited the residence of Policeman Andrew Smith on Sixth South between the State road and Main street A young lady answered the call at the door but refused to admit the deputy who waited outside until Mrs Smith came and let him in On the appearance of Marshal Greenman Mr Smith got out of bed having been on duty all night remarking You might have let me slept which would seem quite true The complaint is issued by United States Commissioner McKay and signed I by Marshal Ireland and charges Mr Smith with unlawfully living and cohabiting cohab-iting with more than one woman namely with Jennie Smith and with Ann Wag staff as his wives At 12 oclock the accused with his wives reported smiling ly at the Commissioners office Shortly afterward F D Richards attorney for the defendant put in an appearance and the prosecution not being able to attend the examination was postponed until 2 oclock this afternoon At 2 oclock the defendant waived an I examination and was bound over under bonds of 1500 to appear before the I Grand Jury S P Teasdel and Frank Armstrong going sureties The witnesses Jane Smith Annie C Smith John and Alexander Smith were secured by sureties of 200 each |
