Show THE CRITICS The criticisms to which the Administration Adminis-tration is being subjected by the Republicans Repub-licans recalls a saying in one of Beacons fields novels A young aspirant for literary honors was told on the appearance appear-ance of his first work that on the morrow the critics would begin And pray who are the critics Those who have failed in literature was the reply he received re-ceived The same may be said of those who are now acting the part of critics of the new Administrationthey are those who have failed in government To read some of the telegrams that are sent over the country one would imagine that there was naught but discontent among the Democrats and hypocrisy among the Cabinet and nothing but virtue and patriotism among the Republicans It is said that Secretary Manning is in favor of a clean sweep and the only reason why he does not make one in his Department is owing to the fact that he sees the advantage ad-vantage of maintaining a pretense of civil service reform His critics and those who are so well acquainted with his views do him a gracious kindness by I informing the public of his private views on public matters as it seems he dare not If the telegrams which are sent out solely for the countrys good and for no other purpose are true PostmasterGeneral Vilas must be the personification of all that is hypocritical and base for the telegrams tele-grams special telegrams say that this worthy tells the Democratsremovals are being made much faster than people think and at the same time Vilas tells the Mugwumps that Republican postmasters post-masters are heing treated with the most distinguished consideration What fate must await the Republic when such men are chosen as the advisers ad-visers and counsellors of the President President Cleveland should immediately seek out the man who makes these startling start-ling discoveries and give him a place in the Cabinet The service he would do his country would be wonderful A very serious trouble with this kind of criticism is that it is given to the country first and the Administration is under the necessity of getting it out of the newspapers if they get it at all while they t are hunting for it the country is going to ruin Poor country Another very peculiar thing about the great amount hypocrisy in the Administration and discontent in the Democratic ranks is that the Republicans are always first to discover them The Democratic press make very little comment I I com-ment on the great discontent in their own party although it exists to such an extent ex-tent that there is liable to be a revolt against resident Cleveland and his ways at least so say the Republican press and the Republican press know for the Republican press say they do The deceit and hypocrasy of the Administration Admin-istration in the matter of appointments is i to be thoroughly exposed on the meeting meet-ing of Congress It is very fortunate that the exposeure is not to be made until Congress Con-gress meets as it will not meet until December when the weather will be colder cold-er Were the matter appointments to be exposed now the grave charges which are being made might melt before the hot rays of the summers sun It is plain that the Administration and the Democrats Demo-crats arc enemies of the country and are doing all in their power to hasten its downfall raml the patriotic Republicans seem to gloat over the fact that they are doing it Were it not for this gloating I every true patriot would say put the Republicans Re-publicans in power But they do not want to be in power as they find it more pleasant to be the critics of those who are in power Let us all remember that the critics in this case are those who have failed in government |
