Show j The Mystic Order of Thirteen At thirteen minutes to 10 last evening the Thirteen Club of Chicagoindulged in their thirteenth regular dinner at the Grand Pacific There were present fifty two guests being divided among four tables allowing thirteen at each table Several invited guests were present including in-cluding quite a number from other cities who were attending the Annual session of the National Burial Case Manufacturers Association at the Grand Pacific Each table was decorated with a large basket I of flowers placed at either end and smilax arranged in the form of an end J less chain surrounded the table typical of the antisuperstitious doctrine of the J club in their courting and defiance of the i I usually dreadmonster death In front j I of each plate stood a burning candle and I during the dinner William Edgar arose j i I and addressing the chief ruler F II Hill said that a curious inqident had hap I pened in the fort that the candle in front of William Hostellers plate had for some I unknown reason gone out The chief ruler directed that the breath of the gen tleman be examined in order if possible to unravel the mystery After the re sponses to thirteen suitable toasts the lights were burning low and they ad journed Chicago Herald 14th |
