Show CITY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS Saturday Next to be Designated asa as-a Day of Public Mourning The City Council met in regular session ses-sion last evening and after listening to the leading of the minutes the clerk read an invitation from the Grant Memorial Committee inviting the Mayor and City Counci to attend the services next Saturday Sat-urday in a body The following resolutions were presented pre-sented by Alderman Speirs which were unanimously adopted and an adjournment adjourn-ment taken for one week Resolved That to communication inviting invit-ing the Mayor and City Council to be present pres-ent at and participate in the memorial services ser-vices in honor of General Grant to be held vces at Liberty Park on Saturday the 8th inst be accepted and that we attend the services serces in a body That the Recorder be instructed to notify the committee on invitation of this action That the City Marshal be instructed to confer with the general committee and the coner rangements chief marshal and make all necessary ar That the Mayor be authorized to designate desig-nate Saturday August 8 1885 as a day of public mourning and request that during the memorial services all unnecessary labor be abandoned that stores saloons and business busi-ness places be closed and that trade and commerce be suspended That out of respect to the memory of the I illustrious dead the business of this session be deferred and that the Council do now i adjourn |
