Show 1 o 1 if WASNT LOADED FOR BEAR How Bruin Spoiled a Picnic And Had the Lunch to Himself I A rather comical story comes from Alta in which a Ire John King the popular agent of the tramway and a friend figure as the heroes Mr King and his friend wearied with the conventionalities of society life in Alta thought to hie themselves to the primitive freedom of the Big Cottonwood lakes They prepared pre-pared a fine stock of edibles including champagne cigars and whatever else would be conducive to a right royal time King rode a mule and his friend followed the winding trail on a 40 horse Notwithstanding many obstacles impeding im-peding their journey across the range they reached their destination beside the lakes in safety Being fatigued and in need of refreshments the Choice lunch was spread out and about to be sampled when the mule which was picketed nearby near-by began to bray and the horse came running frantically into camp pursued by a real live bear a King swears under oath The men believing it good generalship to retreat hastily mounted their flying steeds and headed down tho tow path for Alta The choice lunch was politely left for their unwelcome visitor until the following follow-ing day when two hardy miners were hired to go after it and bring back the bear i convenient to do so Mr King and his friend think that their little outing recuperated them sufficiently suf-ficiently to enable them to bear up under the trammels of civilization for the remainder re-mainder of this season |
