Show TABERNACLE DROPPINGS Bishop Whitney was the manadropper at the Tabernacle last Sunday To judge from the Bishops very frantic exhortations exhorta-tions there seemed to be a more than usually strong call for the congregation present to have clean hands and pury heartsthe whitewashing of consciences f or tho occasion being understood of course The Bishop revealed to the congregation congrega-tion that the Lord had bowels of compassion com-passion and that they yearned over His saints as they trod the rough and thorny heavenly road It is thought very probable prob-able that the Revelator was a little off in the above owing to mistakes in the use of terms For bowels of compassion he probably meant bowels of the earth and the heavenly road was inadvertently in-advertently substituted for the Underground Under-ground route The reverend gentleman babbled a good deal about Babylon and in the most affecting manner referred to the pathetic fact that Babylon had some hundreds of brazen gates Ho then dwelt in tender analogy upon the brazen materials of these gates of old and the Mormon Church of the present During the Sacramental ceremony the Bishop told how the Mormon Church used water instead of wine Wine was peculiarly susceptible to adulteration and in the air of the Tabernacle would naturally become foul It was true that wine and women were generally linked together in sensuality but tho Saints did the best they could in the matter and what they lost in wine they made np in women The Bishop spoke airily and easily of the conversations of Mr Joseph Smith and the Lord While indulging in these light recollections of Mr Smith and his old acquaintance the Lord it was noticed no-ticed that the reverend speaker toyed familiarly with a peculiar looking look-ing piece of pasteboard No explanation was evidently considered necessary in regard to this piece of pasteboard and the unsaintly in tho congregation took it i for granted that it was the card the Lord left the last time he called personal 1 on Mr Smith I J I |
