Show 1 4 DRIVING A WILD COLT Edward Goodman Kcceivca Severe Injuries From a Fractions Animal At about 12 30 yesterday afternoon a rush to the corner of Second South and the State roads from all directions attracted attract-ed the attention of s reporter who followed fol-lowed in close pursuit in search of the cause of excitement On reaching the scene a young man aged 22 years by the name of Edward Goodman was picked up insensible from the side of the road and was being carried to the Scandinavian drug store A DEMOCRAT reporter called on Mr Goodman this morning at 121 South First East street while Dr Richards was dressing his injuries On inquiry it was learned from the young man himself him-self that he hitched a buckskin colt belonging be-longing to Mr Gunhand his employer to a twowheeled cart yesterday for the purpose of breaking the colt which succeeded suc-ceeded in breaking him as was very evident from his appearance today At first the colt started all right enough but in pulling on him when opposite the City Sfables the bridle broke and pulled back over the horses head which seemed to find it out before Goodman did and made a wild frantic dash for liberty Byron Crosby in the cart at the time thought the walking plenty good enough and I jumped out unhurt Goomdan hung to the I lines which was as useless as though he had pulled on the tugs until the horse I collided the gig with a tree in front of Mr I the E J Travis residence throwing I young man in the air like a rocket to I alight on his head and side on the I ground An examination showed his ninth rib of the right side broken his back badly bruised and an ugly abrasion or flesh I wound on his forehead above the right I eye At first it was feared he had re reived internal injuries but as yet nothing alarming has shown itself in I that respect |
